Brachiaria: Biology, Agronomy, and Improvement
Editorial: CIAT Publication No. 259
Año: 1996
ISBN: 9589439578
The economic importance of Brachiaria grasses if well established. Estimates of areas currently under Brachiaria pastures in Brazil alone range between 30 and 70 million hectares. The forage potential of these grasses was first recognized about 40 years ago, mainly restricted in ecological niches in tropical Australia.
The major impact of the genus, however, was realized only in the past 30 years when a handful of Brachiaria cultivars, derived directly from naturally occurring germplasm, were widely sown in tropical America.
This volume will provide a comprehensive overview of the biology and agronomy of Brachiaria and will serve as a guide to researches whose goal is to realize the fullest potential of these tropical grasses.
